Tropical cyclone Catarina. Satellite image of a tropical storm off the coast of Brazil in the South Atlantic ocean. Clouds are white, land is green and water is blue. Meteorologists from Brazil and the USA estimated the windspeed of the hurricane to be between 80 and 120 kilometres per hour based on satellite observations. Cyclones (or hurricanes) are rare in the South Atlantic. Photographed on 27 March 2004 by the Moderate- resolution Imaging Spectroradiometer (MODIS) instrument aboard NASA's Terra satellite. This image has 250 metre resolution and shows an area of approximately 1150x1500 kilometres of Santa Catarina and Rio Grande do Sul provinces.
