On the Pacific Coast, also,many California-type cars have been reconstructed,notably in Los Angeles, where center entranceswith ramps and outside steps were provided in thereconstruction of some 300 of the railway com-panys narrow-gage cars at a reported cost of $678per car. The ultimate value of such rebuilt cars is, ofcourse, problematical, in view of the change ofopinion that has taken place regarding the plaincenter-entrance design.
