Spiral galaxy NGC 7331, optical image. This galaxy has a number of large starbirth regions (pink) in its spiral arms, areas where new stars are being formed. Hot young stars are bluer than older stars, hence the arms generally appear blue. Older stars and dust at the centre of the galaxy contribute to its yellower appearance. NGC 7331 lies around 43 million light years from Earth in the constellation Pegasus.
