Clostridium botulinum bacteria (botulism bacillus). This bacterium secretes a powerful toxin which blocks the motor neurons responsible for muscle contraction. When injected locally this toxin (botox) diminishes wrinkles by paralysing the muscles that cause them. Optical microscope x 1000.
