India: The Mughal Emperor Akbar intercedes with a young Hindu woman determined to commit suttee (self-immolation) after the accidental death of her husband-to-be. Akbar (25 October 1542 - 27 October 1605), also known as Shahanshah Akbar-e-Azam or Akbar the Great, was the third Mughal Emperor. He was of Timurid descent; the son of Emperor Humayun, and the grandson of Emperor Babur, the ruler who founded the Mughal dynasty in India.
