Detail of Loos House, Vienna

Detail of Looshaus (1911) on Michaelerplatz in Vienna. The photograph shows a section of the cipollino marble facade with a decorative bracket holding a street lamp and three distinctive small-paned windows. The architect, Adolf Loos (1870-1933), advocated buildings that were plain, honest, and functional, and this building began the trend to 20th-century modernism.
