This coal occurs 20 to 30 feet above the Lower Kittanningcoal, locally known as the clay vein near New has been mined at a few places south of New Cumberland tobelow Kings creek, also north to Congo. The coal ranges fromone to four feet, reaching an unusual thickness of nearly sevenfeet on the outcrop at the old mine of the Congo Coal Co. At the present time most of these mines have fallen in, butat the George McNeill mine on the river bank just below themouth of Kings creek, the following structure was measured: Heavy sandstone.
