He wasenraptured with profound respect and love for the princi-ples of our republican and moral institutions, many ofwhich acknowledge, with paternal gratitude, numberlessfavors from his fostering care. But the sun of his personalusefulness has forever set, and the nation will long deplorehis loss. His deeds, like the everlasting hills, will standas noble examples to guide posterity in promoting the bestinterests of our happy Union ; therefore be it Resolved, That the chambers of the respective Boards ofthe Common Council be draped in mourning, and remainso for ninety days; that the members wear the usual badgeof mourning for the same period; that it be earnestly rec-ommended to the citizens to close their places of businesson the day of the funeral obsequies; that the proprietors 13 afc. iiifi-^,rm-,.7mil|i,n)|i,ii|,Lin;,.-,liir.,l„i;ii 0bs(^(^i|ic3 of of public places, and owners of ships and other vessels, berequested to hoist their flags at half mast during the day. Resolved, That a Committee of seven members from eachBoard, together with the President thereof, be appointedto carry out the foregoing preamble and resolution, and tomake all such arrangements as they may think advisableand proper. Resolved, That the Clerk of the Common Council be di-rected to transmit a certified copy of the foregoing pream-ble and resolutions to the family of the deceased patriot. Which were unanimously adopted, and Aldermen Coe-NELL, Smith, Brislby, Tweed, Bard, Ward and Boyce,together with the President, appointed such Committee onthe part of this Board.
