This famiJy was anciently seated at yJppletree-wick, in the parishof Burnsali, in Craven, in the county of York, from whence theyspread into several flourishing branches; of which, John Craven, oi AppJetree-tvick^ aforesaid, who lived in thereigns of Kings Henry VII. and VIII. had issue William Craven, who, by Beatrix his wife, daughter of JohnHunter, was father of 1. Henry Craven, oi Appletree tvicl, who had a son, RobertCraven, of Appletree-wick, of whom hereafter, as ancestor to thepresent Earl. 2.
