The peculiar large andrambling building towards the left, standing alone in themeadow, is what remains of the old Brother chapel or Saal, with the extensive galleries whichonce adjoined it, has long since been demolished. TheKloster presse^ or Ephrata printing establishment, is saidto have been located in the lower corner of this house. All these ancient buildings are now occupied as tene-ments, except the Saal proper, which is still devoted to itsoriginal uses, religious services being held upon the scrip-tural Sabbath by the local Sabbatarian or German Seventh-Day Baptist congregation. The smaller dwelling among the trees, about equi-distantbetween the two groups of large buildings, was once thecabin of Father Friedsam, the founder and master-spiritof the Community.
