Bronze wall plaque commemorating ladies of Mendoza giving food valuables to General San Martin, Cerro Gloria, Mendoza, Argentina

The 3500-6000 men of Argentinian General San Martin's Army of the Andes assembled at Mendoza before a 25 day Andean crossing via the Uspallata Pass to free Chile, and ultimately Peru, from Spanish Colonial Rule in 1817. The main Monument, celebrating the centenary in 1914, was designed by the Uruguayan sculptor, Juan Manuel Ferrari. Bronze plaques on the side of the monument illustrate the army in training and local people giving equipment to the army. This bronze plaque, attached to a memorial wall near the summit monument, illustrates the women of Mendoza giving food and valuables to General Jose San Martin and his Army of Liberation.
