Arcos de la frontera was declared a national historic- artistic monument in 1962 due to its unique architecture and beautiful narrow meandering streets, Archaeological remains have shown that the Moors, the Romans, the Phoenicians all settled here and artefacts have been found from The bronze age, Neolithic, and Tartessian periods. Perched on top of a 150 meter cliff the village has a perfect defensive position and hence the settlements and the construction of the Castle. Castillo de los Arcos. Arcos is one of the most picturesque white villages in Andalucia.
