Mars sample return mission. Artwork of a spacecraft in orbit around Mars as part of the proposed Mars sample return mission. This spacecraft is retrieving a sample (in spherical cannister) of rocks collected on Mars. The sample was put into orbit by a vehicle that launched from the planet. NASA and the European Space Agency are collaborating on proposals for a mission to gather samples of Martian rocks and bring them to Earth after 2020.
