Culture.—Sow in early Spring, in drills a foot apart, every two weeks for a succession; and as it grows, thin out for use. Keep clear of weeds. Sow the New Zealand in hills three feet apart each way, three or four seeds in a hill. This is fit for cutting all Summer. For Fall use, sow in August all the other varieties, and for Winter crop in September. Cover that which is left out over Winter with straw or leaves, after the weather becomes quite SWISS CHARD, or SILYER BEET. This is a Beet producing only leaves, excel- lent as greens.
