29/05/15 Time for a snooze. For one group of hardy folk, today's rain only adds to the fun that can be had by the beach, fishing in the river, or playing in the woods. The gnomes, and a few pixies and fairies, make up a collection, now believed to be close to 2,000 individuals, that 'live' at the Gnome Reserve near Bideford, North Devon. Visitors are asked to wear gnome hats, so as not to scare the gnomes who feature as the largest collection in the Guinness Book of World Records. Ann Atkin's collection began in 1979 and features traditional gnomes on toad-stools to Olympian athletes, astronauts who work for 'GNASA', a beach scene complete with gnomes in bikinis, a queue for the ice-cream van, Punch and Judy gnomes and another floating on a lilo.
