Headrather long and but slightly distinct from the neck. Eye large,with elliptical (cat-like) pupil and surrounded with a ring of7 to 10 scales. Several pairs of shields near the snout; remainderof head covered with scales. Scales of the body in 39 1045 rows. Colouration.—Bluish gray or brownish above, sometimeswith traces of three brownish stripes. Abdomen red or yellowish,mottled with brown.
