Although hisconnection with the marine, created under the con-stitution of 17S9, was of short continuance, it left adurable impression on the service ; and, if we lookback to the dark period of the Revolution, we findhim contending in some of the fiercest combats of theperiod, always with heroism, and not unfrequentlywith success.
