September 3, 1861, he re-enlisted inCompany B, Twenty-Second RegimentMassachusetts \olunteer Infantry, andwas mustered out Januarj* 21, 1864, toaccept the appointment of First Lieuten-ant and Adjutant of the Thirty-SeventhRegiment United States Colored Troops,and served therein until September, 1864,when he contracted malarial fever and wassent to the hospital at Hampton, Va.,where he was honorably disch
