'Elisabeth Foster', (1933). Portrait of early female British novelist Elizabeth Cavendish, Duchess of Devonshire (1759-1824). Born Elizabeth Christiana Hervey, then Lady Elizabeth Foster, she was close friend of Georgiana Cavendish, Duchess of Devonshire, but later supplanted her, gaining the affections of William Cavendish, 5th Duke of Devonshire, and later marrying him.
