XIMING COAL MINE, TAIYUAN, CHINA - AUGUST 2007: Miners wait for the narrow guage electric trains that will take them underground at the beginning of their shift. While the safety record and pay at state mines like this one are much better at than in the many private mines the figures still compare badly with other countries. In China over 5,000 miners died in accidents in 2006, accounting for 80% of total deaths in coal mine accidents worldwide.
