The Eighteen Arhats (or Luohan) of Chinese Buddhism are conceived as the original followers of Gautama Buddha who have followed the Noble Eightfold Path and - through meditation and monasticism- attained terracotta sculpture of Luohan shows him seated and wearing a monkÕs robes was created during the Liao dynasty (907C1125 CE) and discovered near Beijing in 1912.
