Herd of Common eland (Taurotragus oryx) The eland is the largest antelope in the world, measuring up to metres to the shoulder. It inhabits grass plains, scrub and woodland in sub-Saharan Africa. It feeds on grasses, roots and tubers, which it digs up with its hoofs, and leaves. If lower parts of a tree are bare, it uses its horns to bring higher branches into reach. Females and their young live in large groups, young bulls live in smaller groups and older bulls are solitary and territorial. Photographed in Ngorongoro Conservation Area (NCA) Tanzania
