The Market. Taking everything into consideration, the business conditions for the last month can be classified as fair. As al- ways is the case right after the holi- days, sales of pot plants were on the decline, but now the demand is a little more lively. The cut flower sale is holding its own, and although there ?was no occasion for extra shipments, the retailers disposed of their regular supply from the northern markets, all of which arrived in fine condition. Our locally grown cut flowers now conawt mainly of Koman hyacinths, Paper Whites and Soleil d 'Or narcissi, valley, orchids, single violets and the different varieties of roses grown by one firm, all of which are used by themselves. Some early outdoor-grown sweet peas are in the market, but the supply is limited. Weather conditions have been unfa- vorable to the market gardeners lately, as this month there have been cold rains on three successive Sundays, which are, as a rule, the best selling dafs for them. Our landscape garden- ers have finished their early planting of spring-flowering stock, some of which can be seen in bloom, but the develop- ment of the plants is greatly delayed by the excessive rains. A temperature as low &a 26 degrees was predicted for January 24, but, luckily, it did not reach the freezing point. Various Notes. The New Orleans Horticultural So- ciety heldrits regular monthly meeting January 21, in the Association of Com- merce building. President P. A, Chop
