Abdomen dull brown with grey hind margins to the segments, widened towards the sides and occupying the whole lateral margin, last segment brownish. Hypopygium with a roimdish, grey basal knob and a reddish, incurved ovipositor, which is longer than the basal part and thick at the base. Legs about as in the male, but paler, tibiæ more brownish and tarsi brown, hind tibiæ without a long anterodorsal ciliation; anterior femora likewise with a wart below. Halteres brownish yellow. Length 3,5—4 mm. V. pilosa is rare in Denmark, Dyrehaven, Geel Skov (the author), on Funen at Hvidkilde (Miss E. Møller) and a specimen, probably from North Sealand (Schlick), in all two males and two females; the dates are ^Vs—V?. As seen from the description my specimens belong to a dark form with black halteres and strong, bristly hairs round scutellum, answering to var. setosa Verr.
