Thousands of ghost towns still populate the American West In their prime they brought seekers of gold and silver as well as saloon keepers shop owners and those on the lookout for an easy buck or an easy mark In many ways they are contemporary reminders of the Wild West In the evening if you listen closely and the breeze is right you can sometimes still hear the honky tonk music and voices coming from the bars the red light district and the boarding houses And you might not find yourself immune to recurring stories of the millions of dollars of gold that lie buried in the earth beneath your feet
