Herald moth


The herald moth (Scoliopteryx libatrix) is a member of the Erebidae family. The flight period is usually June through to November with one or two broods, adults overwinter in dark, cool structures such as cellars, caves and garages. This species occurs across all of the Palearctic and Nearctic ecozones. The larvae feed on mainly poplar, aspen and willow. Photographed in Somerset, UK, in July.
