General Thomas Carleton 1735 1817 Memorial Plaque in St Swithun's Church Nately Scures


General Thomas Carleton circa 1735 – 2 February 1817 Governor of the Province of New Brunswick from its foundation in 1784 until his death although in 1803 he returned to England and administered the Province from there. Younger brother of the 1st Baron and a British army officer who was promoted to Colonel during the American Revolutionary War after relieving the siege of Quebec in 1776. He was appointed as Lieutenant-Governor of New Brunswick, and supervised the resettlement of Loyalists from the United States into the province.
