Elective topics may be implemented on a periodic basis. The use of electives should be directed toward a greater understand- ing of the scientific method through the development of laboratory and library research skills. Electives may be pursued utilizing several instructional strategies ranging from individual to group work and from structured to open-ended investigations. Electives should be designed to make science more interesting and meaningful through the assimilation of current issues and applications of biology.
