Accordingly, Millard, after serving an apprenticeship for afew months, began in 1815 the business of carding and dressing afterwards a school-teacher. In 1819 decided to become a law^^er,and in 1823, although he had not completed the usual course required,was admitted as an attorney by the court of common pleas of Erie 5, 1826, was married to Miss Abigail Powers, daughter of aclergyman.
