Psoriasis affecting a finger nail of an adult female patient. This skin condition has caused the nail to become raised, thickened and discoloured. Psoriasis occurs when excessive growth of skin cells leads to patches (plaques) of itchy, scaly and thickened skin which may become infected. Psoriasis is sometimes triggered by emotional stress, some infections or drugs, although often the cause is unknown.
