Frederick Augustus, Duke of York and Albany (1763-1827), commander of English army in the Flanders (1793-1795), leading the allied attack on the French camp on hills near Valenciennes. The town was besieged from 23 May to 28 July 1793, when garrison surrendered to the allies, Austria, Britain and Hanover. In later life he was known as 'The Grand Old Duke of York'. Engraving.
