Remingtonocetus prehistoric whale ancestor, illustration. This aquatic mammal lived from 45 to 43 million years ago, during the Eocene. It was found in freshwater and coastal habitats along the shores of the Tethys Ocean, reaching lengths of over 3 metres. It forms part of the evolutionary tree that resulted in modern cetaceans (whales).
