The all-over bind-ings, always small,are not uncommon ;they are in black orred morocco, with. colours interchanged, -^^^ o-old-tooled binding inand are tooled in gold, all-over style, by Samuel the very decora-tive addition of silver paint, water-colour, applied by handhere and there. Eliot and Chapman did much excellent work in theeighteenth century and invented large ornamental bordersfor their bindings.
