The early 2016 Chicago Marathon leaders, Paul Lanyangata of Kenya in front, closely followed by reining 2015 Chicago Marathon winner and fellow Kenyon Dickson Chumba as they negotiated the turn from State Street onto Jackson Boulevard just past the two mile mark of the race. Lonyaganta went on to finish fourth while Chumba came in second a mere .03 seconds behind the winner Abel Kirui. The top five finisher were all Kenyans. The Chicago Marathon is one of the world's five major marathon events annually joining the Boston, London, Berlin and New York major events.
