Assistant Commandant of the Marine Corps, Gen. Glenn M. Walters presented the medal to Capt. Andrew Kim, intelligence officer, Marine Corps Tactics and Operations Group. Kim’s Bronze Star Medal was upgraded to a Silver Star Medal, the third-highest personal decoration for valor in combat, through an initiative from the Department of Defense to review valor awards for actions after Sept. 11, 2001.
