Classroom optical bench. In this experiment a double convex 50 mm lens is compared with a 140 mm plano convex lens. The wooden optical bench allows for fairly precise experiments in the classroom and consists of a meter rail on which carriages are placed against a millimetre scale. The light source is a focused light emitting diode that is bright enough to use without a blackout. The light is cast onto an object needle. The image is focused by a lens onto a white metal receiving screen which can have a squared paper insert. Mirrors, object screens, diffraction objects and Young's slits can also be used in the setup.
