Giant Wurzeburg Radar Duxford Aero Museum - part of the Imperial War Museum Ground Controlled interception RADAR, in service with German anti-aircraft defences from late 1941. Research into RADAR (Radio detection finding) proceeded in Germany as well as Britain, and as early as 1934 a ship could be located at a range of 500 yards. Telefunken produced 'small Wurzburg' gun laying and ground radar with a range of 25 mies in 1938, the Giant Wurzburg followed on and had a range of 50 miles. Giant Wurzburgs worked in pairs, one tracking enemy bombers and the other defence fighters. At least 1,500 examples were built.
