The Company pays taxes, franchise remuneration, etc., totaling approximate-ly $1,000,000 a year. The number of employes on the regular payrolls is nowapproximately 3,000, exclusive of day labor. COSMOPOLITAN ELECTRIC COMPANY STATION, CHICAGO The Cosmopolitan Electric Company is a central station electric light and power company supplying consumers in aconsiderable portion of the city of Chicago where it maintains Its distributing lines. The power house of the company, illus-trated herewith, is situated on the .south branch of the Chicago river, on Grove street just east of Canal street. This is amodern, complete and efflcient power generating station of sulflcient capacity to take care of the needs of the company forsome years to come. It is equipped with four large steam turbines driving alternating current three-phase generators, theequipment including condensers, circulating water for which is secured from the Chicago river and high vacuum by which thegreatest efficiency in the use of the steam in the turbine is secured.
