Fig. 12—should be prepared,as directed for polypus of the nose; the motion of the tongue be perfectlycontrolled by the loop previously mentioned ; a superficial circular incisionmade around the base of the tumor ; a tenaculum passed through the diseasedstructure so as to elevate it from that portion of the organ in vi^hich it isdeposited, and then the loop of the wire passed over the tenaculum and car-ried around the tumor in the incision first made. The wire being then drawnas firmly as possible, should be fastened to the wing of the canula, and thelatter left, wrapped with linen or tinfoil, protruding at the angle of the mouthnearest to it until sloughing occurs, when the instrument may be removed.
