In fertilization nothing takes precedence in import- ance over animal bones, because they furnish the soil with the essential requisite of nitrogen as well as phosphoric acid. On the average, ioco lbs. of good bone dust contain about 38 lbs. of nitrogen and nearly 25 per cent, of phosphoric acid; to put it familiarly, 1 ton of good bone dust contains as much nitrogen as 8}4 tons fresh stable manure, and as much phosphoric acid as no tons of same.
