Breakfast at Hasty Pudding
During the American Revolution (1775-1783), British Major John Andre conspired with American Revolutionary traitor Benedict Arnold to betray West Point. They asked a Whig named Joshua Smith, who was not privy to their plans to help with some of the travel arrangements On September 23, 1780, Andre and Smith stopped at a farmhouse for breakfast. Robbers had been there the night before and taken everything except some hasty pudding, which the Dutch call soupaan. And so, Andre and Smith had hasty pudding (pictured here) in this 1876 engraving.
