France, Normandy, Seine Maritime, Fecamp, View of the Palais Benedictine, The history of Benedictine began during the Renaissance when a Venetian monk at the Abbey of F camp Dom Bernardo Vincelli created an elixir from 27 plants and spices from the 4 corners of the globe However in the turmoil of the French Revolution the recipe was almost lost forever But in 1863 Alexandre Le Grand a distant relation of the F camp notable discovered the secret recipe and decided to decipher it in order to re create this mysterious liqueur He modernised the recipe and called it Benedictine The liqueur soon became extremely popular In 1882 Alexandre Le Grand decided to have a unique building built in F camp to house the distillery a Palace Museum Today the Palace is both the production site for the Benedictine liqueur and a well renowned museum with a large collection of art from the 14th 15th and 16th centuries and which regularly hosts modern art exhibitions
