The following points may be interpreted as supporting the view that the Cardipeltis shield is only a dorsal disc, not the complete dorsal shield: 1. The absence of a pineal macula. This is not conclusive since the macula is indistinct in some Cyathaspidae, as Dinaspidella and Irregulareaspis.
