Feedwater Heater After the steam has been condensed, it is fed back to theboiler and on the way passes through three feedwater heatersarranged in series. Each heater is supplied with exhauststeam at a different temperature so that the feed water isheated progressively from about 120 deg. F. to 300 deg. heaters are circular and contain a series of brass tubes, surrounded by exhaust steam. The first heater is suppliedwith steam at approximately atmospheric pressure and 195deg. F. from the condensate pump turbine, the air ejectorfor the condenser, the vacuum brake ejector, leakage fromthe dummy piston of the main turbine and steam from theother heaters. The intermediate heater is supplied with. Details or Condenser Elements Steam at approximately 9 lb. pressure and 230 deg. F. fromthe turbine boiler feed pump. The high pressure heater issupplied with steam at approximately 60 lb. pressure and295 deg. F., being the exhaust from the induced draft fanturbine. Pumps and Air Ejector The condensed water is taken Ijy a condensate pump anddelivered to a boiler feed pump which forces it through thefeedwater heaters into the boiler. The condensate pumpwhich operates under a low head is of the single-impellerrotary type and driven by a small turbine, the speed beingbrought down by a single helical reduction gear. Saturatedsteam is used for this turbine although in practically allother places superheated steam is employed. The boiler feed pump akso is of the rotary type. It hasthree impellers in scries and is driven by a direct-connectedturbine. The boiler feed pumj) is mounted on a cast-ironoil reservoir. In this reservoir there is a rotary lubricatingoil i)um[) with a vertical spindle
