This image may not be used to state or imply ESA endorsement of any company or product Hephaestus Fossae, Mars. This region is dotted with craters and a channel system. This crater measures 20 kilometres in diameter. It is thought the channels were formed when the more powerful impacts melted subsurface ice reservoirs. The resultant flow of water eroded channels in the surface. Image taken by the High-Resolution Stereo Camera (HRSC) on the Mars Express spacecraft on 28th December 2007.
