'The Siege of Pskov by Stephen Báthory in 1581', 1839-1843. From August 1581 until February 1582 during the Livonian War, the Russian city of Pskov withstood a siege by a Polish army commanded by King Stephen Bathory. The city, which was defended mainly by civilians, is said to have repelled 31 separate attacks. Found in the collection of the State Tretyakov Gallery, Moscow.
