Aviation Ordnancemen hoist a Paveway III GBU-24/A laser guided bomb for transfer from one of the ships magazine spaces to the flight deck of the US Navy's nuclear power aircraft carrier USS CARL VINSON (CVN 70) in support of Operation DESERT STRIKE. The operation was designed to allow tactical missions by US and other coalition aircraft inside the borders of Iraq, in response to repeated Iraqi attacks in violation of UN Safe Zones.
