Floodlit view of the eastern faceade of Chartres Cathedral, France.

Chartres cathedral was built between 1134 and 1260. It is a UNESCO World Heritage listed site. Of special note within the cathedral are the stained glass windows and its labyrinth. It was always, and still is, a place of pilgrimage. Each summer the building is floodlit , along with other building and parts of the town. The changing lighting effects are accompanied by music. The cathedral can be seen from miles away as it rises out of the flat surrounding countryside.
