Common or Eastern Blue-Tongued Skink, Tiliqua scincoides scincoides, Scincidae


Common or Eastern Blue-tongued Skinks, Tiliqua scincoides scincoides, are found in Eastern and central Australia. They are terrestrial diurnal viviparous lizards that bask occasionally. The Blue tongued skink can grow to a length of 24 inches 60 cm. Their diet consists of mainly plant material but also included are insects mice smaller lizards and snails. This lizard derives its name from the colour of its tongue which is cobalt blue. The inside mouth is pink, the body is grey brown, and there is a black eye stripe.
