Cape Ashizuri is at the southernmost tip of Shikoku. The observatory views give visitors a perception of just how round the earth is. Standing on the edge of the cliffs is Cape Ashizuri Lighthouse, one of the largest lighthouses in Japan - and the symbol of the cape. Along with an abundance of subtropical plants in the area, there are many varieties of camellia that grow here, which gives the place its nickname "Cape Camellia."  The waves are powerful around the cape and the area west of Ashizuri is considered a prime surf fishing spot. At night, Ashizuri is a fine stargazing territory, since there are no lights to obscure the sky.
